City-Hop: 3 Games and Boston
Into
If you're keeping up,
yesterday was day 3on my city-hopping trip,
and my second day
exploring Boston!
Two things have become
very clear.
1. I don't have enough time.
2. I need to keep up
with my blog
instead of writing it all
the next morning.
Unfilted Cider
I was hoping
to make it to
the Museum of Science.
Laura, the person whose
couch I'm sleeping on,
mentioned the light show
was worth checking out.
Besides,
I love science!
Instead, I took a Lyft straight
to meet Amanda for our tour
at Downest Cider House.
The Downeast Cider House tour
was chill and very different
from yesterday's experience.
Amanda, Mia (another friend of Amanda's)
and I went.
That one wasn't free
but it was much more
in depth.
Looks like it was
$9.
Amanda booked it.
(I need to find a way to
pay her back! More on
her later.)
The tour didn't feel so
tourist-oriented.
Which was awesome.
Lolita's
Next, we spent a few hours
at a restaurant.
This meant
I wasn't able
to do museums or
anything like that.
I really expected our main
drinking and eating
would be done in the evening.
So by the time we left,
well, what do you do
on a Sunday evening?
Everything was closed
or closing.

When you find out just how silly you are by meeting your friend's friends. |
For me,
it was slightly strange
because we'd met up
with a couple more people.
So I edited a story
I'd written on the road
and put it up
on Instagram.
Probably made me seem
anti-social but
my problems were
escalating
(I've mentioned in a
previous post or two
that I'm dealing with
unknown health issues
at the moment).
I didn't have much distraction
from my discomfort.
So I distracted myself
with a story.
Though none of that
stopped us from
having fun.
I'd like to point out
that hole-in-the-wall places
can be found all over Boston.
I've been going out
with people who live around here,
which changes what I'd
normally do.
For example,
I wanted to try out a cheap
healthy place but
my company wasn't feeling it.
You can go vegan
and not blow all your money
in Boston.
It's very doable.
Now, What?
After stuffing ourselves,
we spent nearly two hours
driving around
or trying to figure out
what to do.
(Point is, it can take
10 minutes to drive
2 miles... I'm used to
driving in the country so
that's INSANE to me!)
Since I was the 'visitor'
I was in charge, but all
my plans had been postponed.
Amanda's Obsession with Nerds

How do I keep getting drinks with these flowers and straws? Fate's way of telling me I need to go back to the tropics? |
We made it to an adult arcade
by MIT.
Had some more drinks,
played games,
and grabbed some
grilled cheese sandwiches
to go.
Mine was vegan since
I can't eat cheese and
It was a less-eventful day,
but hopefully, I'll make up
for that today.
Friendships
Amanda has been wonderful
through all this.
Sure, that half-a-day lunch
was awkward and strange.
But she's been driving around,
making suggestions,
getting us where we need to go,
and, well, she's just
a lot of fun.
I feel fortunate to have
a friend like her!
My biggest tip for
budget travelers,
and for everyone,
is to be open to
making new friends.
And maybe you're one of
those people who are awkward
and introverted and you
hate introducing yourself to
new people and forcing yourself
into their lives.
Guess what?
Me too!
I grew up hiding from people.
That's not even
an exaggeration.
But the people you meet
are half the experience
of travel.
You don't have to
make friends with
everyone you meet.
But you also don't
want to miss out
on amazing
friendships.
Outro
Ok, enough ranting.
Time to finish my coffee
and head out for my
final day in Boston!
