City-Hop: 4 Boston to Salem
Intro
Yesterday was my
final day in Boston.
I was too tired to get out
as early as I hoped to,
but by the time I did leave,
my backpack was packed.
Museum of Science
There are so many
museum and gallery options
in Boston.
Science and the
light show
won me over.
It was awesome.
There were three stories
of different exhibits
and this particular
Monday morning, crowds
weren't too bad.
There were a few schools
of kids, but I still had a lot of
time and space to explore everything.
The light show
fun and inspiring.
I recorded it and will be
posting a video up on
Instagram later.
Some of the displays
were small-children
oriented but there was
plenty for me to enjoy.
I was also able to grab
a few souvenir pennies.
Paul Revere House
Amanda picked me and
we went straight to
Paul Revere House.
Actually, we went round
and round in circles before
changing GPS apps and
then went straight there.
Street parking was...
interesting.
All the parking lots were
expensive, but after driving a bit,
we found a place.
It was $5 cash for each person.
The visitor center had
extra things on display, and
it's a self-guided tour.
The people there were
nice and informative,
though we couldn't take pics
inside. (Though you could
in the visitor center.)
It was a nice stop.
Haymarket
Next, we ate and shopped
at Sephora. Well,
she shopped there.
I just stained my hands with
lip colors and called it a day.
Laura kept mentioning
Haymarket, so I wanted to
check it out.
She even mentioned
there were some
vegan donuts there.
(If you've been
keeping up, you know
I love to eat vegan when
I travel because it's the
easiest way for us
lactose intolerant beauties
to avoid dairy).
There was a
vegan pastry shop,
where I got a cannoli,
and a donut shop,
with 2 vegan options!
Both were delicious.
We also grabbed some tea
and kombucha. Whatever
that is. It was all tasty.
There was honey and
some decor places, too.
Salem
Finally, we faced the
traffic and headed to Salem.
I got an Airbnb there,
just blocks away from
downtown.
Hocus Pocus Tour
After checking in,
we found a walking tour
that was minutes from
starting! I called them
and they were the
sweetest couple. There
were two couples doing
the tour, and they all
waited on us.
The tour was educational
and they talked a lot about
murders and the witch tails.
Susan was fun to listen to.
She clearly loved telling
the stories. They also showed
some Hocus Pocus sites but
said most of it was filmed
elsewhere. For a last-minute
decision on what to do, I don't
think we could've done better.
They gave us a broomstick pen
at the end! It was cute.
There were a handful of
tours going on, maybe some
ghost tours. Plenty of
options. Susan did mention
It seemed unusually dead.
Nobody was out. We were
pretty secluded. She said
you just never know, especially
when they're out of season.
October is, of course, the main
season for this area.
Outro
I feel like I ended Boston
and started Salem well.
If Amanda hadn't been there,
I would've taken the train
which supposedly takes
30 to 40 minutes.
I'll be doing that tomorrow,
though (but post will be up
the next day on it), so I'll
get more details on that.
Ah, now if you'll excuse me,
I have some more
exploring
to do!
