City-Hop: 1 Houston to Boston
Yesterday, I began my city-hopping trip.
The plan:
Boston - Salem - Chicago - Myrtle Beach
And I want to see
if I can do it all
on a budget.
Originally, I was going to Puerto Rico
but changed my plans
when I became sick.
More on that later.
I’ll write another post in the end
about expenses and how I paid
$7
for this flight.
My flight wasn't to Boston, though.
Because I'm a budget traveler,
and a last-minute flight
straight to Boston
would have been costly.
And that's how I woke up
at 1am
to catch a 6am flight
to Newark, NJ.
(Left at 2am,
drove 2 hours to the airport
arrived 2 hours as advised)

This is me, eating a PB&J for breakfast on my flight. Spirit airlines offers nothing for free, so I bring my own water and food. |
Left at 6:15a
arrived at 10:30a
(in a different time zone,
in Texas it was 9:30).

No idea why I took this picture, in the Spirit Airlines potty. |
About me being sick...
I mentioned in this a previous post.
Probably a Coachella post.
It started in Costa Rica.
I've been seeing a doctor about it.
The office left a voicemail
when I was on the plane.
I called back and was told
I'll need to see a specialist.
Don't know what is wrong,
but it may cut my trip short.
Or maybe it won't.
The next bit
might be a little confusing.
I drew out a map
for the bestie,
just cause it was fun to do so.
But here's the visual!
From the airport,
I caught the train to Manhattan.
$13
This site helped with that!
I got a bit confused
because I thought there were
different trains
to Newark Penn
and New York Penn.
Nope. Same train.
Very similar names.
From the train station,
I rode the Bolt to Boston.
$25 cash.
This is funny because
I was a walk-up.
Had I got it beforehand,
it would've been $35.
I didn't know it'd be $25.
And it probably changes.
I later saw bad reviews for it.
So I'd suggest trying
the walk-up option
unless you need that security
and are on a time crunch.
The ride was straight.
No stops, whatsoever.
And it was about 4 hours long.

I thought I took more photos... Hm. |
4:30pm
I finally made it to Boston!!
Then I talked to a crazy man
waiting on my Lyft ride
to my Couchsurfing host.
Couchsurfing is a site
where you can socialize
with locals to the area
you're going to
and maybe even find
a couch to crash on.
My day ended with
getting some Columbian food.
I'm not sure I want to post
costs of Lyft rides
and food
because all that
will vary.
Taking the green line
would be more price effective,
but having not known that,
I jumped on Lyft's promo.
For a month,
I get $5 off
my first 20 rides
for $15.
So, that's why
I'm using that
and not the bus.
Train to host was about $11
and other places have been
free or close to it
(so around $5).
Remember Amanda
from my Costa Rica post?
That's who I'm seeing today!!
