DESCRIPTION
Core concepts from the book, The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven, bring this book trailer to life. A book of action, ancient ritual, and a fight between internal and external forces, The Black Tattoo keeps its reader on the edge. A book trailer, poster, and moving billboard were designed and created to form a whole ad campaign. The concept behind the design is (Spoiler Alert) The Scourge is everywhere. When a person is possessed by him, that person has a tattoo that grows when he or she uses the Scourge's power. The tattoo then disappears when the spell is gone. The Scourge was trapped in a tree. The book is about his release from that tree.

What did I do for this project besides conceptualize? I dissected some tribal tattoo template and pieced them together to create the tree and butterfly. I illustrated the outline of the tree, which originally had foliage in it, but that proved to create a piece that was too busy. I animated typography, taking quotes directly from the book. I animated the tree, and turned the butterfly into a 3D figure that moved and shattered. I also layered a video (credits below for the video) to create the hell overlay. I then added music and 2 different sound effects to create the sound you hear. This project is where I initially learned After Effects.
